History of Nine Kunds (Navagraha Kunds)
Kaithal is traditionally identified with ancient Kapisthal, said to have been founded by Yudhishthira of the Mahabharata. The Nine Kunds are traditionally believed to have been created for worship and propitiation of the Navagrahas and have long served as a centre for ritual bathing and planetary pacification rites, reflecting the town's ancient religious heritage.
Culture & Context
The site holds significance in Hindu astrology and folk belief, where each kund represents one of the nine grahas (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu). Devotees visit to perform Navagraha puja, offer prayers for removal of doshas, and take holy dips, especially on Saturdays and during eclipses and festivals.
