About Ngarkat Conservation Park
Ngarkat Conservation Park is a large remote conservation park in the Murray Mallee region of south-eastern South Australia, within the Tatiara District Council area. Covering approximately 270,000 hectares, it protects one of the largest intact mallee ecosystems in Australia. Notable for its extensive sand dunes, mallee scrub, seasonal wildflowers and habitat for malleefowl and other mallee birds, it offers remote 4WD touring and bush camping experiences.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a remote, semi-arid wilderness of low mallee eucalypt scrub, undulating sand dunes and heathlands with few facilities. The park is traversed by sandy 4WD tracks including the Border Track along the South Australia-Victoria border. There are basic designated bush campsites with pit toilets and fire pits, walking opportunities, birdwatching and nature observation. The environment is isolated with no water, fuel or supplies inside the park and limited mobile reception.
