About New Digha Beach
New Digha Beach is a wide sandy beach located in New Digha, Purba Medinipur district, West Bengal, along the Bay of Bengal. Developed as a newer, less crowded extension of Old Digha Beach, it is known for its flat shoreline, shallow waters, casuarina groves and sunrise and sunset views. The beach is a popular family destination with food stalls, markets and nearby accommodation, forming part of the Digha coastal tourism circuit.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a long, flat sandy shoreline with shallow sea water and casuarina plantations along the coast. The beach area has open sand for walking, sitting and photography, with views of sunrise and sunset over the Bay of Bengal. The promenade and beachfront have food stalls selling fried fish and seafood, souvenir shops, and nearby hotels and markets. The sea is generally calm near shore but swimming is tide-dependent and visitors share the beach with families and day tourists.

History of New Digha Beach
New Digha was developed in recent decades as a planned extension of the original Digha seaside resort to accommodate growing tourist numbers. While Old Digha was developed as a beach resort in the 1920s-1930s, New Digha was laid out later with wider beachfront, accommodation and market areas to expand the coastal tourism infrastructure of Purba Medinipur.
Culture & Context
New Digha Beach is a major weekend and holiday leisure destination for residents of West Bengal and neighbouring states. It is known for family beach tourism, seaside food culture centered on fried fish and seafood, and as part of the Digha-Shankarpur-Mandarmani coastal tourism circuit that supports local fishing and hospitality communities.
