History of Nelang Valley
Nelang Valley was historically inhabited by the Jadh tribe and lay on a traditional trade route. It was reopened for regulated tourism in 2015 under administration of the Uttarkashi district and Gangotri National Park authorities.
Culture & Context
The valley reflects Tibetan-influenced culture of the Jadh community, visible in traditional stone and timber houses, and is located within a Himalayan region associated with the Gangotri area. The abandoned villages preserve examples of high-altitude Himalayan settlement architecture.
