About Nava Tirupati Temple Circuit
The Nava Tirupati Temple Circuit is a group of nine ancient Vishnu temples located along the Tamiraparani River in Thoothukudi District, Tamil Nadu, between Srivaikuntam and Tiruchendur. All nine are among the 108 Divya Desams revered in Vaishnavism and are traditionally associated with the nine planetary deities (Navagrahas). Built in Dravidian style and celebrated in the hymns of Nammalvar, the circuit is a major pilgrimage route visited together, especially during the Garuda Sevai festival.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect to visit nine separate Vishnu temples spread across villages along the Tamiraparani River, typically covered in a single day by road. Each temple features Dravidian architecture with gopurams, pillared mandapas and sanctums enshrining Vishnu in different forms. The temples are relatively small, set in rural surroundings with river views and agricultural landscapes. Pilgrims perform darshan at each shrine, observe traditional rituals, and can attend festivals. Facilities are basic and travel between temples is by auto, taxi or private vehicle.
