History of Narendra Nagar Palace
The Narendra Nagar Palace was built in 1910-11 by Maharaja Narendra Shah, ruler of the Tehri Garhwal princely state. It was specifically constructed to accommodate an expected visit by the Viceroy of India, though that visit never materialized. The palace later hosted distinguished guests including Lord Mountbatten of Burma, a later Viceroy of India. Narendra Nagar was established in 1919 as the summer capital of the Tehri Garhwal Kingdom when Maharaja Narendra Shah moved his capital from the old town of Tehri. The palace served as the official residence of the royal family and witnessed visits from renowned heads of state during the Maharaja's reign.
