About Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary
Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary is a 485-hectare protected box-gum grassy woodland reserve in Gungahlin, northern Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. Established in 1994 and enclosed by a predator-proof fence since 2009, it protects critically endangered Yellow Box-Blakely's Red Gum woodland. The sanctuary is notable for its ecosystem restoration and reintroduction of locally extinct species including eastern bettongs, eastern quolls and bush stone-curlews, and for its extensive walking trails and guided twilight tours.
Visitors guide
Visitors can explore a fenced box-gum grassy woodland with open grasslands, eucalypt woodland and wetlands on marked walking trails. During the day, self-guided walks offer birdwatching, wildflower viewing and interpretive signage. After dark, access to the predator-free interior is by guided twilight tours to spot nocturnal reintroduced mammals such as eastern bettongs and eastern quolls using spotlights. The setting is natural and quiet, with unsealed trails, viewing areas and a strong focus on conservation and education.
