About Mueang Phaniet Archaeological Site
Mueang Phaniet Archaeological Site is an ancient moated city located in Tambon Khlong Narai, Mueang Chanthaburi District, Chanthaburi Province, eastern Thailand. The rectangular earthen ramparts and moats enclose an area dating to the Dvaravati period, around the 7th to 12th centuries, with later Khmer influence. Managed by the Fine Arts Department, the site preserves laterite foundations, scattered artifacts and an open landscape that illustrates early urban settlement in the region.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect an open, grassy archaeological park enclosed by visible earthen ramparts and moats forming a rectangular plan. Inside are low laterite foundations, scattered brick remains and information boards explaining the layout of the ancient town. The setting is rural and quiet, surrounded by orchards and village land, with paths for walking and viewing the earthworks. There is no reconstructed building, but the scale of the moat and ramparts is clearly observable.
