About Muara Kuin Floating Market
Muara Kuin Floating Market (Pasar Terapung Muara Kuin) is a traditional river market at the confluence of the Kuin and Barito Rivers in North Banjarmasin, Banjarmasin City, South Kalimantan. Operating for around 400 years, it is one of Indonesia's oldest floating markets. Traders, mostly women, sell fresh produce, fish, and breakfast foods from wooden jukung boats in the early morning, preserving Banjar river-trading culture.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect an early-morning river scene at the mouth of the Kuin River where dozens of wooden jukung and klotok boats gather on the water. Traders, predominantly Banjar women wearing tanggui hats, sell fruits, vegetables, fish, and traditional breakfast cakes directly from boat to boat. The market is active only for a few hours after dawn, with bargaining, boat-to-boat transactions, and views of stilt houses along the riverbanks. Access is by rented boat from nearby piers.
