History of Mount Mee
The Mount Mee area was used for timber getting from the 1870s, particularly red cedar and other hardwoods, with sawmills and forestry operations. Closer settlement for dairy farming and banana growing occurred from the early 1900s. The former Mount Mee Forestry Station and Gantry reflect the timber industry history, now interpreted within D'Aguilar National Park.
Culture & Context
The area lies within the traditional lands of the Jinibara people. The forested landscape and D'Aguilar Range hold cultural significance for Aboriginal communities and later for forestry and farming communities that shaped the hinterland settlement character.
