About Mount Lokon
Mount Lokon is an active stratovolcano in Tomohon Utara, Tomohon City, North Sulawesi, Indonesia, forming a twin volcano system with Mount Empung. Rising to about 1,580 meters above sea level, it lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire and is one of Sulawesi's most active volcanoes. Notable for its active crater, sulfur fumaroles and panoramic views over Tomohon, Manado and surrounding highlands, it is a popular hiking and nature destination when volcanic activity permits.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a moderately strenuous hike through tropical vegetation and volcanic terrain to the crater rim of an active volcano. The trail from Kakaskasen village leads to a barren crater area with sulfur vents, rocky slopes and expansive views over Tomohon, Lake Tondano and the Manado coastline on clear days. There are no permanent structures at the summit; the experience is focused on nature viewing, photography and observing volcanic landscape. A local guide is commonly used and access depends on current volcanic activity status.
