About Morjim Beach
Morjim Beach is a sandy beach located in the village of Morjim in North Goa, situated on the northern bank of the Chapora River. It is widely recognized as a significant nesting site for endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles, with conservation efforts actively protecting nests during the October to March season. The beach is also culturally distinct due to its high concentration of Russian tourists and businesses, earning it the nickname 'Little Russia'. It offers a relatively tranquil environment compared to busier Goan beaches.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a wide sandy shoreline backed by palm trees and numerous beach shacks serving both Goan and Russian cuisine. During the nesting season (October–March), sections of the beach may be cordoned off or monitored by volunteers to protect Olive Ridley turtle nests. The atmosphere is generally relaxed with opportunities for birdwatching along the adjacent Chapora River estuary. Signage and menus in Russian are common throughout the area. Water sports are limited to minimize disturbance to marine wildlife.
