About Mon Repos Conservation Park
Mon Repos Conservation Park is a coastal conservation reserve near Bargara, 14 kilometres east of Bundaberg in Queensland, Australia. It protects Mon Repos Beach, the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on Australia's eastern mainland, particularly endangered loggerhead turtles. Managed by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the park is renowned for its seasonal turtle nesting and hatching, research programs, and the Mon Repos Turtle Centre that supports conservation and visitor education.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a protected coastal beach and dune system with the Mon Repos Turtle Centre as the main visitor hub. During turtle season (November to March), access to the beach at night is by guided Turtle Encounter tours only, where rangers lead small groups to observe nesting loggerhead, flatback and green turtles and hatchlings under strict low-light conditions. Outside tours, visitors can explore the Turtle Centre's exhibits, theatre, and interpretive displays, walk the beach during daylight, and learn about turtle research and conservation.
