History of Madakasira Fort
Madakasira Fort is believed to have been originally built under Vijayanagara feudatories and later strengthened by local Palegars in the 16th-17th centuries. It subsequently came under the control of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan of Mysore before passing to British administration. The fort served as a strategic hill stronghold controlling the border region between present-day Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
Culture & Context
The fort hill holds religious importance for local communities due to temples situated within the fort precincts and on the hilltop, which are visited by devotees. The site is a recognized heritage landmark for the region and reflects the architectural and cultural traditions of the Vijayanagara and post-Vijayanagara periods.
