History of Maa Sheetla Devi Mandir
The temple has historical associations with the Chand kings period. It is believed that a market (Haat) existed behind the temple during Chand dynasty times. The area was home to the Badarkhari stronghold, which was demolished during wars by the Gorkha king, with remains of demolished walls still visible. According to local legend, the Pandey family of Bhimtal was transporting an idol from Banaras when they rested at Gulabghati in Ranibagh. A dream instructed them to install the deity at this location, and when they could not lift the idol to move it further, they established the temple there.
