Ma Phuc Pass

Ma Phuc Pass is a famous mountain pass on National Route 3 in Quoc Toan Commune, Quang Hoa District, Cao Bang Province, about 22 km from Cao Bang City. Known for its seven winding levels through limestone karst mountains, it is one of the most scenic passes in northeast Vietnam and a key geosite of the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark.

Visitors can expect a winding mountain road with seven hairpin levels offering panoramic views of limestone karst peaks, valleys and terraced fields. The pass has roadside viewpoint platforms and parking areas where travelers can stop to photograph the landscape, observe the dramatic topography of the Cao Bang Geopark, and experience scenic driving or motorbiking along National Route 3 between Cao Bang City and Tra Linh.

Ma Phuc Pass has long served as a key transport route on National Route 3 connecting Cao Bang City with the border districts of Tra Linh and Trung Khanh. It is designated as a geosite within the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark for its karst geology and geomorphology.

The pass lies in an area inhabited by Tay and Nung ethnic communities and is part of the cultural landscape of the Cao Bang border region, reflecting traditional settlement in karst valleys and the importance of mountain routes for local trade and travel.
