About Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail
The Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail is a 38-kilometre recreational rail trail in the Yarra Ranges east of Melbourne, Victoria, following the former Warburton railway corridor from Lilydale to Warburton. Notable for its gentle gradient, historic timber bridges, Yarra River frontage and views of farmland and forested ranges, it connects several townships and is used for cycling, walking and horse riding on sealed and unsealed sections.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a mostly flat, linear trail following the former railway alignment through the Yarra Valley. The route alternates between sealed path from Lilydale to Woori Yallock and compacted gravel beyond, passing farmland, Yarra River flats, bushland, historic bridges, cuttings and former station sites. Townships including Mount Evelyn, Wandin, Seville, Woori Yallock, Launching Place, Yarra Junction and Millgrove provide access points, cafes and rest stops. The trail is shared-use for walkers, cyclists and horse riders in designated sections.
