Lard Yai Walking Street

Lard Yai Walking Street is a weekly Sunday night market on Thalang Road in the heart of Phuket Old Town, Talat Yai, Mueang Phuket. Known locally as Phuket Walking Street, it occupies the historic Sino-Portuguese streetscape and is notable for its preserved shophouses, street food, handicrafts, and live cultural performances. The market promotes local heritage and community products.

Visitors can expect a pedestrian-only street lined with restored Sino-Portuguese shophouses and colorful shopfronts. The road is closed to traffic and filled with stalls selling southern Thai street food, snacks, clothing, souvenirs, handicrafts and art. There are live music, traditional dance performances, and photo opportunities with historic architecture. The atmosphere is lively and crowded, with areas to walk, browse, eat and watch performances along Thalang Road.

Thalang Road is the historic centre of Phuket Old Town, developed during the late 19th to early 20th century tin-mining boom with Sino-Portuguese architecture built by Chinese and Peranakan merchants. The Lard Yai Walking Street was established to conserve and promote this heritage streetscape and support local community products.

The market showcases Phuket's Peranakan (Baba-Nyonya) culture, local cuisine, handicrafts and performing arts. It serves as a community cultural space where local vendors, artists and musicians present southern Thai traditions within the Old Town heritage setting.
