About Lalitgiri Buddhist Archaeological Site
Lalitgiri is a major Buddhist archaeological complex in Jajpur district, Odisha, forming part of the Diamond Triangle with Ratnagiri and Udayagiri. Excavations revealed stupas, monasteries, chaityas and relic caskets dating from the 3rd century BCE to 13th century CE. The site is noted for the discovery of stone caskets containing relics attributed to the Buddha and for its long continuous Buddhist occupation.
