History of Lake Boga Flying Boat Museum
The museum preserves the history of the RAAF No. 1 Flying Boat Repair Depot established at Lake Boga in 1942 during World War II. The lake was chosen as a secure inland base for repair and servicing of Catalina and other flying boats. At its peak the depot employed hundreds of personnel and serviced aircraft for operations in the South West Pacific. The depot closed in 1945 and the museum now occupies the restored communications hangar.
Culture & Context
The museum commemorates the wartime service of RAAF personnel and the local community's contribution to Australia's defence effort, preserving aviation heritage and educating visitors about flying boat operations in Australia.
