About King Island Historical Museum
The King Island Historical Museum is a community museum in Currie on King Island, Tasmania, housed in the former Currie Lighthouse keeper's residence on Lighthouse Street. It preserves and displays the island's maritime, lighthouse, agricultural and social history, with notable collections relating to more than 60 shipwrecks around the island, lighthouse artefacts, photographs, machinery and everyday objects documenting island life since European settlement.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a small, volunteer-run museum set in a historic lighthouse keeper's cottage near Currie Lighthouse and harbour. Inside are rooms displaying maritime relics from shipwrecks, lighthouse equipment, photographs, documents, agricultural tools, household items and machinery that illustrate the island's settlement and daily life. Displays are arranged thematically with interpretive labels, and visitors can explore at their own pace within the cottage and surrounding grounds.
