About Khao Kha Ancient Ruins
Khao Kha Ancient Ruins is an early Hindu archaeological site atop Khao Kha hill in Thung Prang Subdistrict, Sichon District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, southern Thailand. Dating from the 5th to 8th century CE, it is regarded as the oldest Brahmanical site in peninsular Thailand, dedicated to Shiva. Excavated brick foundations, lingams, yonis and Pallava-influenced artifacts mark its significance as a center of ancient Tambralinga culture.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a forested hilltop archaeological park reached by a stepped climb. At the summit are exposed brick foundations of ancient shrines, replica and original Shiva lingams and yoni bases, and interpretive signage explaining the layout. The site is quiet and largely undeveloped, surrounded by rubber plantations and forest with views over Sichon plain. Exploration is on foot along paths and stairways between excavated mounds.
