About Khalsar Sand Dunes
Khalsar Sand Dunes are a stretch of white sand dunes located near Khalsar village in Nubra Valley, Ladakh, at the confluence of the Shyok and Nubra rivers. Situated along the Leh to Diskit route, the dunes form a cold desert landscape surrounded by snow-capped mountains and rugged terrain. Notable for their stark contrast with the Himalayan backdrop, they offer scenic views and are often visited en route to Hunder and Diskit.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect an open cold desert landscape of rolling white sand dunes set against barren mountains and the Shyok River valley. The area is largely natural and undeveloped, with wide sandy expanses suitable for walking, photography and short stops during the drive through Nubra Valley. Views include distant snow-capped peaks, river braids and sparse vegetation. Limited local vendors may offer camel rides near the dunes.
