History of Ke Go Lake
Ke Go Lake is an artificial reservoir created by damming the Rao Cai River. Construction started in 1976 and was completed in 1983, involving large-scale volunteer labor in the post-war period. The project was designed for irrigation of agricultural land in Cam Xuyen, Thach Ha and Ha Tinh City areas, as well as flood control and water supply, and remains the largest water conservancy project in Ha Tinh Province.
Culture & Context
The lake is culturally known through the Vietnamese folk song 'Nguoi Di Xay Ho Ke Go' (The Person Who Built Ke Go Lake) by composer Nguyen Van Ty, which commemorates the labor of workers who built the reservoir. The lake and surrounding nature reserve are regarded locally as a symbol of reconstruction and as a scenic natural landmark of Ha Tinh.
