History of Jispa Village
Jispa was historically a significant stopover on the old Indo-Tibetan trade route where Indian and Tibetan traders exchanged salt, wool, herbs, and grain. Its location on the Bhaga River near Baralacha Pass made it an important resting point for caravans traveling towards Zanskar and Leh.
Culture & Context
The village reflects traditional Lahauli culture with Buddhist monasteries, chortens, and local customs preserved over generations. It hosts a rural museum displaying traditional artifacts, equipment, and costumes that document the region's cultural development. The Dalai Lama has reportedly visited the local monastery during his travels through Lahaul.
