About Jim Jim Falls
Jim Jim Falls is a seasonal 200-metre waterfall on the Arnhem Land escarpment in Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory, about 60 kilometres south of Jabiru in the West Arnhem region. Fed by Jim Jim Creek, it flows powerfully in the wet season and forms a large sandy plunge pool surrounded by sheer cliffs in the dry season. Part of the Kakadu World Heritage Area, it is renowned for its dramatic escarpment setting and remote 4WD access.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a remote natural setting within Kakadu National Park accessed via a 4WD-only road and a rocky walking track. The falls drop 200 metres over the Arnhem Land escarpment into a large plunge pool fringed by monsoon forest and towering red cliffs. In the dry season the falls may stop flowing but the pool remains scenic. The final approach involves a 900m return walk over boulders and sand to a viewing area and beach beside the pool where swimming may be permitted when conditions allow.
