History of Jeen Mata Temple
The temple is believed to be over 1,000 years old, dating back to the 8th century. According to legends, the Pandavas visited this place during their exile and reconstructed the temple. The word 'Jeen' is derived from 'Jayanti'. Local legend states that a girl named Jeevan meditated at Kajal Shikhar and attained the status of Goddess Jeen Mata. During the Mughal era, Emperor Aurangzeb's forces allegedly attempted to desecrate the temple but were driven away by supernatural events including swarms of bees, after which Aurangzeb pledged to provide oil for the temple's eternal flame.
