About Indira Point Lighthouse
Indira Point Lighthouse is a 42-metre red-and-white lighthouse located at Indira Point, the southernmost tip of Great Nicobar Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. Commissioned in 1972, it marks the southernmost point of Indian territory at 6°45' N. The lighthouse is notable for surviving the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, after which its base subsided. Situated overlooking the Indian Ocean, it is a remote geographic landmark accessible via Campbell Bay with required permits.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect to see the tall red-and-white lighthouse tower standing at the southernmost tip of India overlooking the Indian Ocean. The setting is remote and coastal, surrounded by dense forest and shoreline. Access is restricted and requires permits; the lighthouse interior is generally not open to the public and viewing is from the exterior. The visit involves travel by sea/helicopter to Campbell Bay and then by road and short walk, with no tourist facilities at the point itself.
