History of Imus Cathedral
The parish was established in 1795 and the present church was constructed in 1823 under the Recollects. The structure was damaged by a typhoon and earthquake in the 19th century and subsequently repaired. It served as a significant site during the Philippine Revolution, including the Battle of Imus in 1896. It was elevated to a cathedral when the Diocese of Imus was created in 1961.
Culture & Context
The cathedral is the central religious landmark of Imus and the ecclesiastical seat of the Diocese of Imus covering the entire province of Cavite. It is dedicated to Our Lady of the Pillar, the patroness of Imus, and serves as a focal point for religious festivals, processions, and community gatherings, particularly the feast on October 12.
