History of Hunderman Heritage Village
Hunderman Broq was inhabited by Balti families and was under Pakistani administration until the 1971 war, after which it came under Indian administration. Residents abandoned the original hillside settlement and resettled in a new village below. The old village was left intact and later preserved as a heritage village by local community members, with the Museum of Memories established in 2017 to display artifacts left behind.
Culture & Context
The village preserves Balti cultural heritage, including traditional architecture of stone and mud houses, terraced farming, and everyday lifestyle of a Himalayan border community. The museum documents family life, customs and heritage of the Balti people of the Kargil region.
