About Hulikere Aqueduct
Hulikere Aqueduct is a historic irrigation aqueduct located at Hulikere village in Hassan District, Karnataka, about 12 km from Hassan town and near Halebidu. Built in the early 1930s as part of an irrigation project associated with Sir M. Visvesvaraya, it carries water across a valley through a combined tunnel and aqueduct structure. Noted as an early engineering achievement, it remains a functional water channel and a point of interest for heritage and engineering enthusiasts.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect an open rural setting with agricultural fields and a valley landscape. The structure is a long masonry aqueduct with arches supporting a water channel that continues into a tunnel through a small hillock. Visitors can view the aqueduct from the roadside and surrounding fields, walk along approach paths, observe water flow when in season, and photograph the arched structure against the countryside. There is no formal visitor complex; the site is an outdoor engineering structure.

History of Hulikere Aqueduct
Constructed in the early 1930s as part of irrigation development in the Hassan region, the Hulikere Aqueduct was designed to carry water across a natural valley and through a hill via a tunnel. The project is associated with the engineering planning of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, Diwan of Mysore and renowned engineer, and represents early 20th-century irrigation engineering in the erstwhile Mysore State. It continues to serve local irrigation needs.
