Named after W. D. Horsley, Collector of Cuddapah (Kadapa) District in the 1860s, who chose the hills as his summer residence around 1863 for its cool climate. The area was earlier known as Yenugu Mallamma Konda. His bungalow, Horsley Bungalow, still exists on the hilltop.
Culture & Context
Locally revered as Yenugu Mallamma Konda after the hilltop temple dedicated to Goddess Mallamma (Yenugu Mallamma), visited by devotees. The hills are associated with local tribal lore and serve as an eco-tourism and leisure centre for Andhra Pradesh.
