About Hope Cottage Museum
Hope Cottage Museum is a heritage folk museum housed in an 1859 stone cottage in Kingscote on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. Built by stonemason Charles Buick, it is one of the island's oldest surviving dwellings. Operated by volunteers, the museum displays pioneer-era furniture, tools, photographs and domestic artefacts that illustrate early settlement life on Kangaroo Island and preserves local social history for visitors.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a small historic stone cottage with low ceilings and period rooms furnished with 19th and early 20th century domestic objects, tools, clothing, photographs and archival displays. The museum is set in central Kingscote near the foreshore, with a modest garden and outbuildings. Volunteer guides explain the cottage's construction and pioneer life on Kangaroo Island. The visit is self-guided with interpretive labels in compact interior spaces.
