Hon Mieu Island

Hon Mieu Island is a small coastal island in Nha Trang Bay, Khanh Hoa Province, about 1 km southeast of Cau Da Port in Nha Trang City. Part of the Nha Trang Bay Marine Protected Area, it is known for its traditional fishing villages, Bai Tranh Beach with distinct sand and pebble shores, and the Tri Nguyen Aquarium built in the shape of a ship. The island offers beach activities, snorkeling, and views of surrounding islands.

Visitors reach Hon Mieu by short boat ride from Cau Da Port and find a compact island with two main areas: a traditional fishing village with floating houses and seafood restaurants on the north side, and Bai Tranh Beach on the south side divided into sandy and pebble sections. The central attraction is Tri Nguyen Aquarium, a ship-shaped complex with outdoor pools and indoor tanks displaying marine life from Nha Trang Bay. The setting is casual and beach-focused with clear water for swimming and snorkeling, small eateries, and views across Nha Trang Bay to nearby islands.

Tri Nguyen Aquarium on Hon Mieu was initiated in 1971 by local fisherman Le Canh and built by local workers using coral, stone and shells, forming a distinctive ship-shaped structure with an internal lake. The island has long been inhabited by fishing communities and is part of the traditional maritime settlement pattern of Nha Trang Bay.

Hon Mieu preserves a traditional coastal fishing village culture with floating houses, fishing boats, and seafood-based livelihoods, offering visitors insight into the everyday life and maritime traditions of Khanh Hoa's coastal communities.
