About Hoang Su Phi Terraced Fields
Hoang Su Phi Terraced Fields are extensive rice terraces located in Hoang Su Phi District, Tuyen Quang Province (formerly Ha Giang Province) in northern Vietnam. Covering about 3,700 hectares across six communes including Ban Luoc, Ban Phung, San Sa Ho, Ho Thau, Nam Ty and Thong Nguyen, they were created over centuries by La Chi, Dao, Nung and Hmong ethnic groups. Recognized as a National Heritage Site in 2012, they are noted for steep mountain slopes and seasonal landscape changes.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect vast layered rice terraces carved into steep mountain slopes between 800 and 1,200 meters elevation. The landscape changes seasonally from flooded reflective terraces to green growing rice and golden harvest fields. Visitors can explore viewpoints, small villages with stilt houses, narrow footpaths between fields, and encounter local ethnic communities. The area is rural with limited urban development, offering trekking routes, photography spots and homestay experiences in communes such as Ban Phung and Thong Nguyen.
