About Historic Day Dream Mine
The Historic Day Dream Mine is a heritage-listed former silver mine located on Day Dream Mine Road near Silverton in far western New South Wales, about 20 kilometres north of Broken Hill. Discovered in 1882, it was one of the first major silver mines in the Barrier Ranges and helped spark the Broken Hill mining boom. Today it preserves underground workings, smelter ruins and relics, offering guided tours that interpret 19th-century mining history in an arid outback setting.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a guided underground tour through historic mine drives and stopes accessed via ladders and stairs, viewing original timber supports, ore veins and mining relics. Above ground, there are smelter ruins, mullock heaps, old machinery and interpretive displays set in a stark desert landscape of the Barrier Ranges. The site is remote and arid with unsealed access roads, and all underground access is with a guide only.
