History of Hall of Opium
The Hall of Opium was established by the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under the patronage of Princess Srinagarindra to document and educate about the history of opium in the Golden Triangle, where Myanmar, Laos and Thailand meet. Opened to the public in the early 2000s, it presents the long history of opium use, its spread along trade routes, and the region's association with opium cultivation and trade in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Culture & Context
The museum serves as an educational and cultural centre focused on drug prevention and awareness, explaining the social and cultural impact of opium on communities in the Golden Triangle. It is part of the broader Mae Fah Luang Foundation initiatives for sustainable development and education in northern Thailand.
