History of Gurdwara Tham Sahib
Gurdwara Tham Sahib marks the site where Guru Nanak Dev Ji established the town of Kartarpur in 1522 after his travels, making it the first settlement founded by him and a centre of early Sikh community life. The present shrine commemorates the visit of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Sikh Guru, who installed a wooden pillar (Tham) to support the structure being built by the local congregation. The preserved Tham gives the gurdwara its name and links it to the early development of Sikh institutions.
