History of Gurdwara Taragarh Sahib
Gurdwara Taragarh Sahib marks the site of Taragarh Fort, one of five forts constructed by Guru Gobind Singh Ji between 1689 and 1700 to defend Anandpur Sahib. The forts, including Anandgarh, Lohgarh, Holgarh and Fatehgarh, formed a defensive network around the town during conflicts with hill chiefs and Mughal forces. Taragarh served as a strategic outpost on a hill south of Anandpur during the period when the town was the center of Sikh activity leading to the creation of the Khalsa in 1699.
Culture & Context
The gurdwara is a significant Sikh pilgrimage site and part of the Panj Qila (five forts) circuit of Anandpur Sahib. It is visited by devotees as part of pilgrimage to Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, one of the five Takhts of Sikhism. The site reflects Sikh martial heritage and community traditions including langar and congregational prayer, and sees increased visitation during Hola Mohalla festival held at Anandpur Sahib.
