History of Gurdwara Achal Sahib
Gurdwara Achal Sahib marks the site where Guru Nanak Dev Ji visited Achal during the historic Shivratri fair, then a major gathering of Nath yogis. Here Guru Nanak held a spiritual discourse with the Siddhas, which was later compiled as Siddh Gosht in the Guru Granth Sahib. The shrine commemorates this 16th-century event and is associated with Guru Nanak's travels (udasis). The present complex was developed later to preserve the site.
Culture & Context
The gurdwara is a revered Sikh pilgrimage centre in the Majha region of Punjab and an important example of living Sikh religious tradition. It hosts daily prayers, kirtan and langar, and draws devotees especially during Gurpurabs and traditional fair days. It reflects the syncretic cultural history of Batala as a centre of Sikh heritage.
