About Greenfields Wetlands
Greenfields Wetlands is a large constructed wetland system located in Green Fields and Mawson Lakes within the City of Salisbury, north of Adelaide, South Australia. Developed from the 1980s for stormwater treatment, flood mitigation and aquifer recharge, it is among the largest constructed wetlands in the Southern Hemisphere. The reserve features open water, reed beds and samphire flats that support diverse birdlife and provide walking and birdwatching opportunities in an urban natural setting.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect an expansive open wetland landscape with shallow lagoons, reed beds, samphire flats and open water connected by walking and cycling trails, boardwalks and bird hides. The area is largely natural and quiet, with interpretive signage, viewing points for waterbirds, and flat terrain suitable for leisurely walks, photography and nature observation. There are no built visitor centres within the wetlands itself, and the setting is exposed with limited shade.
