About Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch
The Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch is a historic timber arch located at Eastern View on the Great Ocean Road in Surf Coast Shire, Victoria. Erected to honour World War I servicemen who built the Great Ocean Road between 1919 and 1932, it marks the official gateway to the scenic coastal route. The current arch is a reconstruction after earlier versions were destroyed by bushfire, featuring commemorative plaques, a bronze sculpture and interpretive displays beside the highway.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a roadside stop directly on the Great Ocean Road featuring a large timber arch spanning the road with commemorative plaques and inscriptions. Beside the highway is a small park area with interpretive information boards detailing the road's construction, a bronze sculpture of two workers, and landscaped grounds with views to Eastern View Beach and Bass Strait. The site is an open-air photo stop with parking on both sides of the road.
