History of Gopeshwar

According to legend, the temple was commissioned by King Saggar after witnessing a cow offering milk to a Shivalinga. The temple name 'Gopeshwar' is associated with Lord Krishna, based on mythology where Lord Shiva transformed into a gopi to witness Krishna's maharaas in Vrindavan.
