About Giant Clam Sanctuary
The Giant Clam Sanctuary is a community-managed marine conservation area in Barangay Cantaan, Guinsiliban, on the southeastern coast of Camiguin Island. It protects thousands of giant clams (Tridacna gigas and other Tridacna species) in shallow coastal waters. Established to restore clam populations and promote sustainable tourism, the sanctuary features an ocean nursery, guided snorkeling areas, and an interpretation center explaining clam biology and conservation efforts.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a small coastal sanctuary with a visitor center and shallow, clear waters containing dense beds of giant clams visible while wading or snorkeling. A local guide leads visitors to designated viewing areas where clams of various sizes and ages are arranged on the seabed. The site includes an ocean nursery for juvenile clams, educational displays about marine conservation, and a beachfront area with cottages for resting before or after snorkeling.
