About Fragrance and Flavour Development Centre
The Fragrance and Flavour Development Centre (FFDC) is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, located on G.T. Road at Makrand Nagar in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh. Established in 1991 to support Kannauj's traditional attar and perfume industry, it serves as a research, training and development centre for essential oils, fragrances and flavours. It is notable for preserving the city's centuries-old deg-bhapka distillation heritage while promoting modern scientific techniques.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a government-run institutional campus with laboratories, distillation demonstration units, exhibition areas and training facilities dedicated to perfumery. Guided tours typically show traditional deg-bhapka distillation, modern extraction equipment, essential oil samples and finished attars and fragrances. The setting is educational rather than recreational, with displays explaining raw materials, processing methods and quality testing. Visitors can interact with staff, learn about Kannauj's perfume-making tradition and purchase authentic attars and essential oils where available.
