History of Fluted Cape Walk
The Adventure Bay area has long been inhabited by the Nuenonne people of Bruny Island. Adventure Bay was named by explorer Tobias Furneaux in 1773 and later visited by Captain James Cook in 1777. Fluted Cape was named for its distinctive fluted dolerite cliff formations. Grass Point nearby contains remains of early British whaling and settlement activity from the 19th century.
Culture & Context
The area holds cultural significance for Tasmanian Aboriginal people, particularly the Nuenonne band of South East Tasmania, for whom Bruny Island (lunawanna-allonah) is traditional country. The coastal landscape and national park are valued for natural heritage and conservation.
