History of Fatehpur Shekhawati Heritage Havelis
The havelis were constructed primarily in the 18th and 19th centuries by wealthy Marwari merchants who prospered from trade in opium, cotton, silk, and spices along ancient trade routes connecting Central Asia to the Mughal Empire. Nadine Le Prince Haveli was built in 1802 by Nandlal Devra of the Devra merchant family. Goenka Haveli was established in 1870. These structures represent the wealth and cultural patronage of merchant families during the British colonial period.
Culture & Context
The havelis showcase Shekhawati painting tradition, a distinctive style of mural art on wet plaster featuring Hindu mythology, local legends, and depictions of daily life. The town is known as the cultural capital of Shekhawati and represents an important example of merchant architecture and artistic heritage in Rajasthan.
