History of Ezhimala

It was a flourishing seaport and center of trade frequented by Arab traders around the beginning of the Common Era. The region witnessed significant battles between the Chola and Chera dynasties in the 11th century. Archaeological evidence includes burial chambers, carved stone pillars, and granite platforms dating back to ancient times. An Old Malayalam inscription from 1075 CE mentions King Kunda Alupa. The ancient port of Naura mentioned in the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea is believed to be near Ezhimala.
