EDSA Shrine

The EDSA Shrine, formally the Shrine of Mary, Queen of Peace, is a Catholic church at the corner of EDSA and Ortigas Avenue in Ugong Norte, Quezon City, Metro Manila. Completed in 1989 and designed by National Artist Francisco Mañosa, it was built to commemorate the 1986 People Power Revolution. Notable for its distinctive modern architecture and large bronze statue of the Virgin Mary, it serves as an active place of worship and memorial site.

Visitors can expect a compact modern church set at a busy intersection of EDSA and Ortigas Avenue. The exterior features a distinctive facade with a large bronze sculpture of the Virgin Mary by Virginia Ty-Navarro. Inside is a simple chapel with an altar, stained-glass elements, and religious images. The surrounding plaza includes Stations of the Cross, memorial markers, and open areas for gathering. The site functions as an active parish with regular Masses and is visited for prayer, quiet reflection, and sightseeing.

Built to commemorate the February 1986 People Power Revolution, the shrine was proposed by Cardinal Jaime L. Sin and completed in 1989. Designed by architect Francisco Mañosa, it was inaugurated on December 15, 1989, and later declared an Important Cultural Property. It stands on the site associated with the peaceful gatherings along EDSA in 1986.
