History of Dudhai Temple Ruins
Dudhai was an important town under the Chandelas between the 10th and 12th centuries and later under the Gonds. The temple ruins represent the Chandela style of temple architecture seen in Bundelkhand, with Hindu and Jain shrines built from sandstone. The site includes fort remains and sculptures indicating its role as a religious and administrative centre before its decline.
Culture & Context
The site holds religious significance for both Hindu and Jain traditions, with remains of temples dedicated to Vishnu, Shiva and Jain Tirthankaras. The monolithic Narasimha image is venerated locally. It reflects the syncretic religious culture of medieval Bundelkhand and is often visited together with the nearby Deogarh Jain temple complex.
